Charla Gilcrest

Charla I. Gilchrist of Princeton, passed away Jan. 8, 2011 at home. Born in Princeton, she moved a teen with her family to Franklin Township, NJ and graduated from Franklin High School in 1967. She worked for various businesses, including Mathematica Research Inc., McGraw-Hill, and South Brunswick Board of Education. After retirement, she continued to provide childcare.
Daughter of the late Charles J. Greene, she is survived by her son, Ricky D. Gilchrist; life partner, Harold "Pete" Hawkins; mother, Olga R. Greene; a sister, JoEllen Jefferson; a brother, Gordon Smith (Joanne); a stepdaughter, Shakera S. Stephenson-Echols; grandson, Keayre D. Stephenson; granddaughter, Nyara J. Echols; godmother, Rose Yates; godfather, T.W. Teague; two godsons, Bryant A. Brewer and Adrian White; goddaughter, Asha L. Baylor; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 until the funeral service at First Baptist Church, John St. and Paul Robeson Place, Princeton. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home.
